Visual Art Category

Are you ready to use your creativity and your visual art skills to create stunning artwork based on one of Chuck Black’s books?

You can incorporate any of the following artforms and materials into your art piece: pencils, pens, paints, markers, pastels, watercolors, found materials (like buttons, bottle caps, etc.), felt, paper, cellophane, or textiles. Digital artforms are also permitted in this category.

3D Sculpture Category

Calling all sculptors and 3D artists! We’re excited to be offering this new category for anyone wanting to try their hand at 3D art, including sculptures, model and figurine designs, pottery, woodcarvings, and LEGO creations.

You are welcome to work with any medium to create your 3D Sculpture, including clay, wood, paper maché, playdough, and even LEGO bricks! It’s time to pull out all the creative stops to design an artistic sculpture depicting a character, emblem, or object from one of Chuck Black’s books. We also invite you to weave in symbolism and artistic allusion into your sculpture.

Live Action Video category

It’s time to grab your camera, gather your friends and family, and get filming! We cannot wait to see how you use your film skills to bring a scene from Chuck Black’s books to life onscreen!

You can use as many family and friends in the production process as you like, including in the script writing process, the filming process, as actors, or in the film editing stages. Your short film can be up to 15 minutes in length.

Stop Motion Video Category

Are you excited to bring your toys, figurines, props, and art models to life using stop motion video? Use the materials around you to create a film version of a scene from one of Chuck Black’s books!

We welcome all kinds of stop motion films in this category, including LEGO stop motion videos and claymation videos. Stop motion films can be between 3 and 10 minutes in length.

AI-Assisted Art Category

For anyone wanting to flex their creative muscles by seeing how artificial intelligence software can help them create artwork, we’re pleased to announce this brand-new category for the Art and Video Competition this year!

In this category, you are welcome to use AI software for as much or as little of the art creation process as you like (e.g. idea brainstorming, creation of an element of the artwork, full art generation, final polishing, etc.). We invite you to test the limits of current AI software and combine it with your best creative skills to bring to life a still visual artwork based on a scene from one of Chuck Black’s books.
